Making Sense of the ADHD Brain

Making Sense of the ADHD Brain

In this talk, listen to Dr Mohring discuss how to make sense of the ADHD brain by weaving together neuroscience, clinical insight, and real‑world experience. Drawing on current evidence and relatable metaphors, from tidal pools to brain “puppies” and “paths”, she explains how differences in neurotransmitter regulation, network connectivity, stress responses, and executive function are thought to shape the lived experience of ADHD.

Across the session, Dr Mohring explores the heterogeneity of ADHD, dispels common myths, and highlights both the challenges and strengths associated with the condition. She introduces accessible models of brain function, clarifies the role of noradrenaline and dopamine, and shows how factors like stress, exercise, and reward impact focus and behaviour.

The presentation also reframes ADHD as a spectrum of traits with meaningful advantages, offering a strengths‑based lens alongside clinical understanding. This session provides a clear, engaging overview for anyone looking to better understand ADHD, from its neurobiology to its everyday implications.
